AGE FACTOR

The Minister surprised most observers when he raised the age for maximum points for this factor to age 49 on June 28. Under the old rules, maximum points were awarded for applicants age 44 or younger. Now, a 49 year old applicant scores 10 points for the Age factor, and an applicant loses 2 points for each year over age 49. Note that the Age factor points apply as of the date of filing the application. If it takes a visa office 2 years to assess an application, your Age points do not diminish.

The Canadian points system is very different from the Australian system for the Age factor. We value both younger applicants for their youth and their long term potential contribution to Canada, but we also place a high value on the wealth of knowledge and experience that older workers bring to Canada.
