THE FAMILY CLASS
This Class represents a significant portion of the annual immigration intake to Canada. But, I will not spend much time discussing this Class, because qualifying in the Family Class is relatively simple. If the Canadian sponsor qualifies to sponsor the foreign relative, and if the foreign relative is healthy and not a criminal, the immigrant visa will be issued. Spouses and children can be approved even if they have a medical condition requiring medical treatment in Canada. No points are required, no investment is required. The visa officer has no discretion to refuse a qualified member of the Family Class, all who qualify must be accepted.
Note that to be a sponsor, the sponsor must be residing in Canada. The only exception is for a Canadian Citizen residing abroad, sponsoring a spouse or child. The citizen is permitted to initiate the sponsorship application while still residing abroad, provided the sponsor intends to resume residing in Canada upon the immigration of the spouse or child.
