Canada’s Immigration Program

There are three immigration selection classes or categories administered by the Federal Government’s Department of Citizenship and Immigration, known as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). These classes were established by the new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Regulations (IRPAR) which came into force on June 28, 2002. The three categories are Federal Skilled Worker Class, Business Class and Family Class.

Basic information on each category is provided by CIC at their main website: http://www.cic.gc.ca. I will not reproduce that information here; please visit that website to familiarize yourself with the basic elements of the various categories. But, the CIC website does not tell you everything you should know about the way the program works in practice, how the selection factors are actually interpreted and how the program is actually delivered by visa offices.

Click on the CIC website, and from the Menu on the left hand side of the homepage, click on “To immigrate” and read about the classes. Then you can return to my website and I will give you my commentary on the selection factors and the application process, including information that CIC does not give you!
