Carter Hoppe: Biography

Carter C. Hoppe is a native born Canadian citizen. He has practiced Canadian immigration law exclusively for over twenty five years. Mr. Hoppe is the founding partner of the Toronto Immigration Law Firm, Hoppe Bruner. Since 1994, Mr. Hoppe has been based in Dubai, UAE in order to provide closer access to clients living in the Middle East and Asia.

Mr. Hoppe was Certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Canadian Immigration Law in 1993. Mr. Hoppe is also a licensed Legal Consultant in the Emirate of Dubai, UAE, practicing under the firm name, Carter Hoppe Legal Consultants. He is the only Immigration Law Specialist licensed to practice law in both Ontario and Dubai.

He has lectured on immigration law at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, Toronto, and at the Faculty of Law, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He is also the author of numerous papers and articles on Canadian immigration law matters. Mr. Hoppe has twice chaired the Ontario Citizenship & Immigration Law section of the Canadian Bar Association and served as Chair of the National Citizenship & Immigration Law section of the Canadian Bar Association. He currently advises the Executive of the National section in the capacity of Past Chair.

Mr. Hoppe co-chaired the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Annual Institute on Immigration Law in Toronto until November 2006. This important Immigration Law Forum brings together expert Immigration Lawyers and senior Canada Immigration officials to discuss substantive and procedural issues arising out of the implementation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Regulations (IRPAR).

Mr Hoppe maintains residences in both Dubai and Toronto.

Mr. Stanley Mak, a former Clerk of Barrister's Chambers in Hong Kong, is a Senior Immigration Law Paralegal based in our Toronto office. He has worked in the Canadian Immigration Law field for over ten years. Mr. Mak was born in Hong Kong and speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
